The Data Protection Act makes it a legal requirement to adopt appropriate security measures to prevent unauthorised access, alteration or accidental loss or destruction of personal data. Under the Data Protection Act, failure to remove personal data from a computer’s hard drive may result in firms or data controllers being prosecuted with unlimited fines, to include personal compensation claims.
We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under registration number Z3068132 to ensure we take our Data Protection responsibilities, as well as yours, seriously. Your data will be destroyed and a certificate of destruction produced so that you can be certain you have complied with all the relevant legislation.
We are also registered with the Environment Agency as an Upper Tier Carrier Dealer of controlled waste under registration number CBDU112699 and as such, will supply you with a Waste Transfer Note on collection of any used IT equipment. This enables you to deliver on your corporate social responsibility objectives, as well as your WEEE ‘Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive’ disposal obligations. In addition, if you hold or produce any Hazardous Waste (Laptops or Monitors are classed as hazardous), you must ensure that before any hazardous waste is removed from your premises you must check the waste carrier is registered and before any items are removed, a Hazardous Waste Consignment note is completed, signed by you, and you retain a copy as your evidence.
The Environment Agency T11 waste exemption (NC2/061459/2019) allows us to repair, refurbish or dismantle various types of waste electrical and electronic equipment so that the whole WEEE item or any dismantled parts can be reused for their original purpose or dismantled parts can be recovered.
